I've never gone through the academy at any level less than 8-10.
I plan on keeping it that way (even though at level 10 I still had a couple things I could've done before leaving. That will probably be done after release..spending time making SURE every nook is found.

As far as relative age or mindset? PvE most definitely. Age? well lets just say I'm somewhere in the middle of all of you, with a mindset of a man on vacation (would be nice to be on one )..
" You want me do what? move around?"

I am 30. The only reason I went to the acadame at lvl 8 was the person I was with had never seen the Searing. I plan on spending as much time as I can there and might keep a char there permanet too. The view is Great and I am sure A-net will add new things to do for the new character types. Plus you can kill Gwen..... Oh you can't Oh well I still like it there.

Post Gwen loves talking... to herself!

Kaiwyn. I have to disagree with you there. Gwen is a phenomenal conversationalist... with herself. All I saw last time at the end of the BWE, when she spoke to anyone, was yelling at people to not touch her just before they combusted and broke out into "flaming" rashes! Damn! What a good time that was!

I'm 27 and love to consider myself a "man on vacation" as was stated above. State of mind is all it is... unless you're just dying to get to the end and wait for months before the expansion comes out. Not my style. During the limited time BWEs it is/was certainly my style but once we have all the time in the world I will be just as excited as the next guy to take my dear sweet time and enjoy the game as its meant to be!

When I finally enter the academy I will probably take my time as well. I don't know much about different armor and weapons and which is best for my character. I just want to take my time and enjoy the game. I also am disabled and can not sit in this chair for too long at a time and have to keep getting up and moving around or take care of household mundane things. I was wondering if there were any others like me to add to my Buddy list.
I was thinking of taking along time doing as many quest and getting to learn the area of pre-ascalon when the games comes out too.... i would definately join u. im 13 =) hmm this is sorta awkward right now.. darn school tomarrow....

and My Guild is Hero's of Oakhurst [Hoak]

Kaiwyn,

I have always enjoyed the PVE side of Guild Wars more than PVP. Doing the missions and side quests and exploring every last bit of the map. Most of the time it is difficult to find like-minded individuals who are in no hurry to get through the mission or to level up. So...

Add me to your friends list and I'll add you to mine. I plan on spending a lot of time playing in the next beta.

Ingame characters: Alex Titanis, Willow Maze, Olivia of Avalon.

Yes, it's the same date everywhere. Unfortunately, I've planned a small holiday the first two weeks of May, but since they are pre-releasing it, I'll still be able to play a lot.

Btw, I'm 27 and somewhat part of a Guild/Game Clan, that focuses on the PvP, but some of the members actually like to stroll around the pre-sear Asc. So if you wanna hook up during next BWE, just whisper Bunny Master and we'll have a picnic at the nice meadow next to the Abbey I'll be online 24/7 (almost), so no chance in missing me

Kaiwyn, in reply to your question...

Weapon
My shocking flat bow I "customized" by drops. What I am about to say is probably elsewhere on the site in some manner but haven't a clue where so here goes, and pardon any redundancy as it obviously isn't intended.

I chose to identify everything if possible. Sure it's more expensive but sometimes even the white lettered those bows, hammers, axes, or swords had some feature that upped their value and also would be salvaged out with an expert salvage kit. I noticed too that many times there's a higher value for the item identified than when unidentified when sold to an NPC.

So to make my bow took two bow drops, one had the bow grip of warding, the other had a shocking bow string. As a side note, what is horrible but good for the game, is if I were to get say one of those rumoured 30+ damage bows (I have never seen one yet ) and its just a plain jane flatbow. Of course I want to apply the "upgrades" from my current bow...well, which one of them I get to apply is decided for me. See have to expert salvage my customized bow and, so far, I only get one of the "customized pieces" (grip or string) back from that salvage.

Armour
Now drops that are "salvage items" my rule is to always always ALWAYS identify first. If there is a rune inside it is unlocked. Once unlocked I was using the expert salvage kit to make sure to salvage that rune out.

The Armour I got at one of the later outposts. Surely someone else better knows it's name "Blahblah Retreat" or "Refuge." The runes tell you to double click them to apply them to an item when you put your cursor over them so applied them to my armour. It also appears you can only apply one rune at a time as the new one cancels out the old one. You get fair warning when you go to apply it. When upgrading armour I salvage the old armour, and the rune so far has salvaged out for the 2 upgrades since first applied. Don't know if that is just my random good luck or not. A side note about runes is there were a few recieved that weren't my profession, as I am sure we all have received. Those are good for player-to-player trades.

At least this all is what I remember from the last BWE. And if anyone is wondering the odds of some of this stuff, it's my understanding from reading some other posts that Ensign is a math guru extaordinaire, if i am not mistaken, so search this site for his articles or posts. Hope this post was helpful.

Default Different sides of the coin

So far I've seen people express two views about the game. The first is madly rushing through the game to try to reach level 20 and outdo everyone else, and the second is just take your time and go at your own pace. Personally, I'm looking forward to Guild Wars for the challenge it presents. After having played Everyquest for quite a few years as a necromancer, I find the most joy in taking on the fights that no one else thinks can be won. During the last BWE I came across a group of 5 Stone Elementals in Searing near the abbey on my necromancer and they nearly stomped me. It was very touch and go but I did kill all five of them without dieing and with a bit of manuevering. That is the kind of thing I enjoy about this game because you can get into fights like that all of the time. It's a real rush =) As for rushing to 20, nah, no point really since, as someone said earlier on this thread, you really can't avoid leveling on this game. If you take your time and have fun you'll get to 20 on down the line and you won't be penalized for not being level 20 at a certain point in the game. So if there are any out there that share my sense of adventure, (Or stupidity, however you choose to look at it) my character names thus far are Kierra Kiamora, Kiege Kiamora, Kienna Kiamora. I'm always up for some exploring and near death experiences =)

according to GW most of the game is post level 20 anyway

from an interview

Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty, and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

I'm a PvE player so far, mostly because I don't like rushing through areas. Every game I've ever played has found me killing every monster, exploring every map all the way to the borders, completing every available quest, and letting the leveling come to me during the process.

Once I get my chars leveled up and get a good group of friends in-game I'll get into the PvP. Feel free to add me to friends lists if you want, and look me up in the game: Vai Demine and Captain Teancum are my two characters right now.

Ciao,
Vai

There is a link to an Unofficial GWG Member "Phone Book" in my signature. Just to have one singe thread reference we can bookmark and easily go to with the game minimized in the Next BWE. Maybe some of you wanna post your in-game main character name and whatever else similar to what others have posted into this "Phone Book" thread?

It could come in handy for people staying in pre-searing to find others focusing on pre-searing ascalon, as an example.

Sin, I got a bit lost but as far as dropped armour goes,(note the Canadian spelling...are you in Canada too?) I am still in Pre-sear and haven't found any yet. I thought you were having it crafted or getting it from a collector.

I don't seem capable of making enough money to warrant buying an identification kit and the kit that renders stuff down, so I dumped the identify kit. Could I get a decent weapon crafted in Pre-Sear Ascalon?

You can only insert one rune into armour? Bummer.

one rune EACH of 5 pieces

5 different runes

Runes are the armor upgrades of Guild Wars. Each piece of crafted armor can hold a single rune, for a total of five runes per character. These runes must be either general runes, usable by all characters, or specific to your primary class - runes cannot upgrade armor for a different class. In addition, multiple runes of the same type do not stack; if more than one is equipped, only one will function. At the moment there are relatively few runes available for each class.

the fiance is rather into exploring, just a little bit. i like the exploring, but not the repetition that can come from going through certain areas over and over.
